WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU WAIT ON THE LORD?
The average person gets tired of waiting on God and that is why they miss out on the blessings from heaven. They don’t know that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength and soar like an eagle above the circumstances of the world. Allow me to explain this verse phrase by phrase.
1. “… He lifted me out of the slimy pit” (Psalm 40:1 NIV).
This talks about helping you come out of confusion. When someone is drowning, they panic. Due to their confusion and despair they end up drowning someone else who is trying to save them. In the same way, a desperate husband or wife can drown everyone else at home, because they are overwhelmed and perplexed. However, if you’re going through a similar situation, the good news is that God wants to take you out of that pit, too.
2. “… out of the mud and mire” (Psalm 40:2 NIV).
Mud refers to the things that can soil your reputation and character. A person that is confused because of the pain or hatred they’re experiencing can sometimes worsen their situation and cause them to fall into things like addictions, robberies, adultery or lies. When we are muddy and confused the only One who can cleanse us and give us clarity is the Lord.
3. “… He set my feet on a rock” (Psalm 40:2 NIV).
This illustrates affirmation. The mud and mire talk about a place where you don’t have firmness where other people can easily make you slip, but God says He has set your feet on a rock. When you are standing firm you feel confident in life. It doesn’t matter if others criticize you or want to destroy you, because the Lord has affirmed you and lifted your head.
4. “… He gave me a firm place to stand” (Psalm 40:2 NIV).
This talks about purpose and about directing your steps when you were heading in the wrong direction. Most individuals deviate from the right path becoming problematic people in society, unproductive and people who just roam through life. Therefore, they no longer live, they only exist.
When you wait on God He gives you purpose again. You finally stop roaming through life not knowing why you exist. You begin to clearly see why you were born, you become a productive person, and you begin to enjoy life.
Think about it:
What desperate situation do you need to give to God?
Is there something you are about to do that can be unhealthy for you and your family?
