It’s best to offer something that costs you

IT’S BEST TO OFFER SOMETHING THAT COSTS YOU

“But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on buying it, for I will not present burnt offerings to the Lord my God that have cost me nothing.” So David paid him fifty pieces of silver[a] for the threshing floor and the oxen” (2 Samuel 24:24 NLT).

Ordinary people always do what is easier. It is easier to give what is not yours. It is easier to sacrifice something that hasn’t cost you. It is easier to give your offering when there’s abundance. It is easier to sing when everything is going well. It is easier to serve when you have rested and
slept eight hours.

However, extraordinary people go the extra mile, they sing to the Lord even when they’re suffering; they are kind to others even when they have been beaten up by life, they sing in the services even when they’re exhausted from work. They serve and preach in their house of peace even when they’re tired, they give their offerings and tithings even when they have to sacrifice some personal desires and they get up and pray in the morning even when they haven’t slept eight hours.

David was not an ordinary or common man. He did not want to offer offerings and sacrifices that had not cost him anything. He wanted to give God something that truly represented his effort.
What is the benefit of giving your best? The benefit is that God answers your prayers. The Bible says:

“David built an altar there to the Lord and sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings. And the Lord answered his prayer for the land, and the plague on Israel was stopped” (2 Samuel 24:25 NLT).

When you give the Lord your best and not the leftovers of your service, time and effort, then He answers your prayers because after the sacrifice
comes the fire. Keep living completely sold out for God and you will see that soon His glory will powerfully manifest itself in your life.

Think about it:

What do you know you’d like to do, but haven’t yet, because it requires a sacrifice from your part?
What will you do today to offer God the best of yourself?
